Watched the vid, it was odd. But I didn't find it that funny. Guess WoW is still boring in my eyes

Guild Wars is a competitive game. World or Warcraft is a grind game. If you're not interested in competitive PvP, and want that eternal carrot in front of you to grind for, then World of Warcraft is going to be more fun.

Period.

So I'm kinda confused as to why they're trying to market this game to the WoW market. Guess you can't get financial backing if you don't try, even if you're destined to fail miserably, eh?

Peace,

I disagree. GW PvP > WoW PvP, and PvP is the reason I'm playing, for the most part. I really dont care for 3 months of level threadmilling, no matter how pretty the graphics are. Its boring. Baldurs Gate 2 has a more interesting storyline than WoW ever could.

But seriously, if you are not interested in PvP then no, GW isnt long term for you. Its pretty evident, and there is no need to complain about 'lack of content' if you dont like PvP. I never played in the BWE's, but I knew I was getting a PvP game when I bought GW.

Now one could argue that GW's PvP is in dire need of a fix as well, but that is an entirely different subject...

Good points, but this game is not primarily PvE or PvP, its the best of both worlds.

I am getting rather tired of seeing those comments over and over again. Its like playing soccer then complaining that there is no green and no holes and no caddy. See my other post above.

What confused me is that the beginning of the game is loaded I MEAN loaded with quests. However the end game has almost none. I love the quests and the system, but it is kind of sad when people are looking for quests to do since most games have an over abundunce of them!

I payed $80 for the collectors edition also, but honestly I think I got the worth out of it. The only thing ANet can do is add new content, which they promised before, instead of fixing things that should have been fixed a while ago :P If their idea of new content is a project that takes them like 3 months to do, they will need to find something for in between. Tonight I was just exploring majestys rest, and had a blast. But one can only explore so much before they want a challenge to do! UW and FoW are really cool places, but they are not really tactical or anything since people just look for trapping groups or smiters. I would like it if they restored the balance of many different characters on one team.

I have faith in them. They are adding two new large areas with lots of quests next month. And they are adding observer mode which in my opinion will save the pvp community.

The last thing I want anyone to think is that ANet has your money, and thats all they need and they will push you away. Please do not think this way. ANet is one of the most supportive companies to date in my opinion. Fixing problems relatively quickly, and supporting the idea of fansites and many communities instead of just one. So please note that ANet will not want to lose you, and they are doing anything they possibly can to fix any problems the game currently has.

Maybe the state of the game letter will address many problems, and maybe it will introduce new concepts! Just stick around and keep making constructive suggestions!

Would the PvP only/WoW trolls please fark off to WoW?
I think the "GW is boring" crowd here are the same people who say stupid things like "the PvE is only a tutorial for the PvP".

I'm playing GW, and liking it. I wouldn't pay $15 a month, but I definitely wouldn't for WoW or EQ2 either. Who in their right mind pays $230 to play a game for a year?

FWIW, I've played EQ2 and the PvE content is no better than that of GW. I've not played WoW, it's simply too ugly - if I wanted graphics that ugly, I'd get an xbox.

Since they are two different styles of game and the question of whether one is greater than the other is a purely personal opinion I fail to see what this thread can possibly achieve other than a flame war :-s

On the subject of the thread. That movie was....disturbing. The song, the naked characters, the positions they put them in(damn horse freaks), all very disturbing.

You ppl that say "there is nothing to do" need to realize something. Guild Wars is a PvP game, understand, PvP, Player vs Player, if you don't like PvP, then of course there isnt going to be anything for you to do later in the game, cause later in the game is when you should be doing PvP. This isn't a game where you can say "I'm gonna do PvE forever and never get bored.", this is a game where you say "I'm gonna do PvE to unlock things for PvP." So plz, stop complaining about it, its nothing but annoying.

The song is made by Swedish singer/group Gûnther, he/it only makes stuff like that, targeted squarely at the Ibiza-disco-after-two-and-cellphone-ring-signal market.
For some reason Sweden produces a lot of novelty crap, e.g. Crazy Frog and Global Fussball OK, and what I find most disturbing about it is that people actually buy it.

Guild Wars is advertised as both a PvE and PvP game. It's not that the game is supposed to be PvP when you finish PvE. It's that, like single player games, the game ENDS at the end. At that point PvErs need to understand that until expansions are released, that's the end of the PvE road.

It's just like other games. It has a beginning and an end. Once you get to the end you're there. There's nothing left to do.

Lasareth is right on the $.
Also, anyone thinking that WoW offers infinite PvE gaming should check out the WoW forums and the infinite whining there about how boring the game is and the lack of things to do once you hit level 60.

I always find it very strange that people expect infinite playing time from a game that they payed a one-time sum for. I payed $44 for Guild Wars, and I have already played more than 400 hours. Most console games that cost the same amount I have played 10-20 hours, never to return to again. The longest I have ever played on any other console or PC game is 100 hours (Morrowind). Seen in that light, Guild Wars offers incredible value for its money.

Ok, I am loath to get involved in what has become yet another detached thread (seem to be a lot of these recently), but since the video wasn't all that exciting (sorry op ), i'll indulge...

Here's how I see Guild Wars - It is aimed squarely at the casual RPG'er. The majority of people who buy this game probably have never subscribed to a monthly fee MMORPG - myself included. The PvE game isn't huge (although it appears huge when you first start) but once you've completed it with 3 characters (which i'm still yet to do, and approaching 300 hours now) you've had a pretty good run for your money. Now, once you've squeezed every last drop from the PvE game, you have a choice - experiment with the PvP side, or wait for the expansion (or leave if you're the impatient type).

I think if you're willing to open your mind a little bit, then this game has more than enough to offer. You have a 300 hour (at least) PvE bit, and a possibly limitless PvP game after that. If you're not willing to try out both types, then you're only playing half the game, and hence don't really have a leg to stand on complaining that there's nothing to do.

Hey this is a family friendly forum :P
Anyways what a pervert whoever made that. Now if they could do one for the avatars in GW it'd be a lott better. Jiggle FTW :P

There is competition in every game format, it just occurs on different levels. This is more of a byproduct of human nature than game design however.

Here I go for big one.

Before wow came I was one of the keenies hyped fans of it. I was dreaming - you know as UO player to play something with cool grafics, rich tradeskills system - you know reading the info on the net - how you must cooperate with other traders to make a cool item, or some of the ores can be gained only at certain locations and so on...

When the closed beta started I was not selected, neither my friends, thus I waited fot the open...and the dissapointment hit me hard off guard. Basicly, for me - it was diablo clone in the universe of warcraft. Even UO was light years ahead compared to ingame freedom. The characted development - only few of the talent builds was capable of doing something... and you get all the skills all the time and most of them are just a copy of another. In Gw there are a lot of similar skills too, but there is a little difference between them and when you are 8 slot limited - the story is different.

There are some instances that are cool - require some team play and thinking "outside of the box", some pretty cool quest (like Thief :P ) the battle grounds are somewhat fun - the warcraft universe sure is a big plus, the map is HUGE (90% of the time I was exploring the zones...of course when not owned by 60lvl betas or some speedy mob)...but at one moment the game gets to a who got the more cool item. If you got cooler item - the advantage can be enough to win in a battle otherwise you will lose badly. And getting items is a long work - and repetive in the FULL sense of the word - running 24/ instances to get some PART of key which when you get all parts FULL will allow your guild to go to another Instance when you can win some cool item - but your guild is around 50 people, so you must WIN item for all the guild cuz the rest won't be happy. Also some of the best items that can be crafted requires Arcanite bars or similar stuff that has cooldown of 48 hours!?? WTF? And some good platemail may need around 20-30. Ok I understand that blizzard don't want the servers to be flooded by High end items, but 48 hours for ONE arcanite bar, when an item requires 30 and your guild has 20 warriors that want such platemail...well...you better subscribe for 6 months...

That is what I like in GW - items are no uber - they can made a little difference and if used well with certain build can deliver some impact but not that decidive. Also you don't need to play like mad to be able to do something - you just have to think alternatevly like "Ok, we lost bad to a warrior team with monk smites and enchts..seems we need something to defend hand to hand from warriors, so if they can't hit us they can't use their enchantments effectivly, and we will have enough time to subue their smite monks...(and so on)" and with proper build and trys - your team can do it.

WoW and Gw are completely different type of games. It is something like to Compare Unreal Tournament with Morrwind because they are fps. If you watch GW as typical mmorpg - it is bad game, but if you watch it like the game it is ment to be - cooperative mission game with opportunity to trade and compete with other players on arenas - it is great game!

So if you wanna play Wow - go nobody stops you - tha game is not for me, but it can suit you very well and you can enjoy it - no need to drop oil in the flames.
